What Am I Reading?

As a single (non-married) Christian woman in this world, it is extremely easy to feel sorry for yourself. Especially as a Christian woman, you are taught to want to grow into a Christian wife and mother–someone who will raise their children and support their husbands the way the “Proverbs 31” woman has been described. There are so many books out there right now for singleness– Lady in Waiting: Becoming God’s Best While Waiting for Mr. Right by Jackie Kendall, Did I kiss Marriage Goodbye?:Trusting God with Hope Deferred by Carolyn McCulley, Anticipatience: A New Word of Hope for Single Women by Sharon Virkler, and Sacred Singleness by Leslie Ludy, and the list goes on! All of these are great books and inspirational, but none of them allow you to feel uncomfortable!

The truth is, in a Christian world (but even if you are not a Christian), being single is hard. It is okay to desire a boyfriend/spouse/companion. You do not need to feel guilty because you desire such an experience. Look at Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 and 2: She begged God for a child for years as she continued to walk faithfully in His ways! The Lord knows your heart and has given you these desires: and wants you to talk to Him about them!

Missful Moments is a blog designed to speak to the heart of a woman using the scriptures as if God was talking directly to you. There are so many questions and struggles a non-married woman ‘Miss’ faces that the Lord would like to confront with love. From trying to survive in school, forming an identity, and trying to get ahead financially while paying the mounds of bills showing up in your mailbox monthly to family gatherings where everyone asks if you are seeing someone and watching your friends date, get engaged, get married and have children…the Lord wants you to know He has a plan!!!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11

  1. I look forward to seeing more entries from you. I am going to forward this to some single ladies I know. Please keep writing as the Lord directs you.

    • Thank you so much for these kind words. I know the Lord has been using His words to encourage my heart and I pray that there is at least one other woman out there that can benefit from the same verses! Thanks again!

  2. So very true!! You read the books and pray and try to stay encouraged but you end up wondering “What did I miss Lord that all the other people got? You blessed them with a husband and children and yet leave me dateless!!” Lol!! And then the gatherings with friends and their family and you show up dateless…as usual. And of course the other friends and church members you encounter who ask if you are dating anyone and you reply no…again. Lol! You feel so bad having to tell them no again!! Lol!! Excellent post!!

    • Julia, I know exactly how you feel! I am a single professional and was seated at the children’s table during Thanksgiving because for whatever reason, my grandmother sees me as a child if I am not married! Haha. Or yes, invited to a wedding and the dreaded (+1) on the invitation. I think more women struggle with this than they let on 😉
